Whiskey is one of those amazing drinks that will create memories, make a moment special or change your perspective! This happened to me one winter evening when out with some work colleagues in London (UK!). Fast forward to the following morning, when I wake up in my bed, in my house share (it is London after all!) to the smell of burning wood. I froze for a moment as my mind got into gear and my thoughts tumbled in. On the second breath I smelt it again… but it was actually quite pleasant. After about the 4th breath, I realised the delightful burning wood smell was me smelling my own breath!! And what a wonderful smell that was!
The previous night had ended up in a basement hotel bar (fancy!!) for the few of us who remainder, from what was an already boozy night, and a senior work colleague who generously and thankfully picked up the tab. He introduced us to the peatiest, smokiest, most complex whisky, Isle of Islay’s Ardbeg Ten (years old) and the timing could not have been better. It was absolutely glorious. It also propelled me on to my next level of appreciation for whiskey… and fire safety!
